This extensive building projects, saw the complete repair and restoration of a dilapidated, yet elegant Georgian town house, together with remodelling and structural alterations in part, to facilitate a large modern two story extension with large sun terrace.
The restoration project was very demanding due to natural historical defects associated with Georgian build materials, methods, storm damage and deterioration. This project required careful restoration and attention to detail. Because of the buildings’ historical interest it was very important to ensure that all repairs and refurbishments were carried out to match the original character, form and décor of the building. Where necessary original materials and methods were employed and new build materials closely match to the original, maintaining the integrity of the building.
The hillside location, difficult access and challenging site characteristics, were all overcome with good project management and the coordination of new and traditional building methods with modern build technologies and materials. The accurate structural alterations to the existing building enabled the two story modern extension to marry seamlessly, with the original Georgian town house. This modern extension provided spacious open plan living, capitalising on the views out over Kinsale town and harbour. The traditional period basement, kitchen, scullery and boot room were tastefully remodelled into additional bedrooms, a bathroom and a playroom leading to the walled garden. All works' structural and cosmetic encompassed the client’s needs and detailed specification, providing a modern family home.
